BODIES by VLADIMIR VELICKOVIC
Even in his sculptures, which are recent works made during the current year, Velickovic remains loyal to his distinctive iconography. Ravens, gallows, a walking human figure who goes into nothingness, vast deserts, flames and smoke – all are typical for Veličkovic iconic signs. At the end of this line stands perhaps the most concrete, the most direct expression of metaphysical human tragedy which represents to his canvases, drawings and prints – headless human body, or human head without a body. These heads, which are obsessively repeated in his paintings, with the help of bronze have been transposed in the three-dimensional medium. Sculptures from the same series were exhibited for the first time in public in Strasbourg, almost simultaneously with the exhibition in Arte gallery.
