Jovan Bijelić (1886 – 1964)
Jovan Bijelić was one of the most important Serbian artists who matured in the first half of the 20th century. He graduated at the Academy of Arts in Krakow, and like most of his contemporaries continued his specialization in Paris under Giorgio de Chirico.
His first solo exhibition was held in the Ulrich Salon in Zagreb in 1919. In the early 40s he spent some time in Berlin, Dresden and Prague. Unlike most of his contemporaries Bijelić had a short experimental abstract phase. In the 30s his style gravitated towards colorism.
