Nikola Graovac (Vrebac, 1907 – Topola 2000) is one of the greatest color expressionist in Serbian art of the 20th century. At age of 15 he moved to Belgrade, where he studied painting in Jovan Bijelić’s studio. His exhibited his works for the first time in 1933. In 1975 he made life-changing decisions that made a huge impact on his work. He built a house and atelier near Oplenac, and from then all of his painting were created in Topola, not only Šumadija motives, still lifes and portraits, but also Belgrade, Sremski Karlovci and Lika. Graovac spent more than twenty years in Topola.

A large amount of Nikola Graovac’s paintings hang in the homes of foreign statesmen and diplomats. Josip Broz Tito, according to information from the period 1953-1980, during his journeys bestowed art works. Most often from two authors – Nikola Graovac and Peđa Milosavljević.
