The exhibition titled One World presents Ivona Pleskonja’s artworks from a new cycle of monumental proportions and majestic portraits. Her works show the process of carefully constructed ‘store’ for the character – saintlike figure or imaginary warrior of these days. “Framed” in radical frontality, with hieratic posture, these brave fighters of the new world are calling for action while holding the unconditional attention of the observer. They represent the courage this time, the struggle for harmony in the world, for mercy and humanity, the individuals from the artist’s nearest neighboring or herself or selected individuals of the alternative urban universe representing the special alter-ego of the artist. All the characters in her works are merged into one, powerful, prominent male figure. With the image size of a billboard, they are watching us from above like gods. Ivona reminds us that a man was made by God from the ground and soil and also that he is formed by problems in life that drag him over the very same ground. The man, however, always rises, brushes off the dust and bravely casts a glance at the sky. Ivona is not talking about typical everyday problems which are easily overcome, nor about current issues which are like a grain of sand in human history. Every epoch has its own problems and difficulties, there’s nothing new. But every time has it’s own people who deal with those problems.
